When the warm weather arrives, Portland pest control companies remind you that proper yard maintenance is the key to preventing unwanted pests around your home. While your yard will never be free of bugs (don’t worry, many of them are beneficial), keeping your landscaping looking great is a great natural pest control practice.

Include the following on your checklist of outside chores:

  • Clean out your gutters.
  • Keep your lawn trimmed and free of debris.
  • Eliminate standing water and fix leaks.
  • Get rid of food sources.
  • Move your wood pile at least 25 feet away from your house, and keep it dry and off the ground.
  • Use mulch made out of inset-repelling bark (like cedar), but use it sparingly.
