Hiring a professional pest control company can be a pricey venture, albeit an often necessary one. There are, however, a number of preventative pest control steps you can take to help protect your home and family against a nasty infestation. Here are five home pest prevention tips to incorporate into your family’s routine:
A clean house is the best preventative pest control measure you can take. Pests love a mess, as it gives them food to eat and a place to live. Keeping your home (as well as the area around your home) clean of dirt, debris and food particles is a crucial first step in preventing an infestation.
Make sure all the entrances to your house are sealed tightly, including around doors and windows. Check around the base of your home for any points of entry, such as pipes, utilities or cracks in the foundation.
Another great preventative pest control method is to make sure pests don’t have access to any food. Keep all pantries and cabinets closed, and make sure dry foods – including pet food – are placed in sealed containers.
Keep pools, spas, and other large bodies of standing water covered. They can be breeding grounds for flies, mosquitoes, and other pests.
Pests can hop a ride into your home on the back of your favorite pet. Keeping Fido or Fluffy clean and pest-free is a great preventative pest control method.
